Yes, getting to the strut's bottom pin is the problem. The adjustable tilt appears to be a weak point in the design. Just like my truck, I keep the wheel in one position, so you may want to think about the spacer deal and save yourself $70~$100. If you're going to change the cylinder, it may be a bit more difficult to get at the bottom pin of the cylinder, but I don't remember it being intimidating and I don't think you have to remove the steering wheel assembly. I wasn't comfortable with the position, so I did have to take the dash apart to adjust the spacer. It's not adjustable but it holds the steering wheel in place. The guy before put a spacer on the bottom part of the cylinder, below the top steering wheel bracket, and tightened the top nut down to the spacer. I bought a used 1999 TC33D that had that problem. My question is - Do I have to remove the entire steering wheel assembly just to replace this strut, or is there an easier way? In looking at the brackets that hold the strut in place it appears that I'm going to have to remove the entire dash assembly just to get to some of those bolts. I need to replace the hydraulic strut that is used to adjust the tilt angle of the steering column on my TC33D (with HST). TC33D Tilt Steering Strut - How to Remove ![]()
